Sculpture blank

Blank made on a fragment of a mammoth ivory with roughly marked head, body, and legs. On the back side there is cylindrical batural notch. In the middle part of the blank there is a longitudinal crack. There are some red spots on the item.

Manufacturing technique

The whole blank is formed using a planning knife, the traces of which are clearly visible on the thighs, when making a common contour, in the neck area, under the elbows. Firstly, the outline of the item was made, traces of knife cutting are on the head and in the area of the feet. Then a burin was used to make the indentation (eye-?) on the face, the left side of the chest and the inner side of the left thigh. A few traces of a burin are noticed on the right side of the chest. The grooves under the arms and the upper part of the buttocks are made with a knife.
