Feeding swan

Image of a waterfowl. The item has a sub-oval body shape and a curved neck. The wings are not made with relief. In the tail part there is an oval double-sided hole.



Manufacturing technique

Probably, a burin and a planing knife were used to make the neck, body and legs. Traces of shaping are overlapped with traces of contact with a fine-grained abrasive (probably a metal fine-grained rasp). Grinding is uniform, dendrites are found under it. The hole is made probably with the help of a boring tool. 


Use-wear traces

We found traces of grinding on the item, but they are overlapped with traces of polishing (they are found on the whole surface, including the area of the hole). The traces could appear because of a contact with a soft material.
