Flying bird

This is an image of a flying waterfowl. It is made on thin ivory flake of elongated proportions. There is no deep relief on the item and all the parts are flattened. Oval-shaped head and small wings are highlighted. There is a hole in the oval-shaped part of the tail. 



Manufacturing technique

When shaping the item, a planing knife was used to make wings, head and tail part. The whole surface is covered with the traces of a push-plane work and polishing. The hole in the tail part is made with a reamer. 


Use-wear traces

Traces of polishing in the tail part can mark a contact area with soft organic material (probably, the item was tied to smth).
